The Doors & Streets of Loreto Aprutino in Abruzzo Italy

A look at the enchanting entrances to homes in the medieval village of Loreto Aprutino Abruzzo Italy located minutes from Pescara along the Adriatic Sea.
Over 80% of Italians Americans on the East Coast of the USA have roots from the Southern regions of Italy. Abruzzo, Apulia, Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Molise, and Sicily.
Along either side of The Church of St. Antonio, narrow streets allowed donkeys and carts to get around the village to their ‘garages’. Today’s cars, not so much.
A typical attached ‘garage’ was meant to accommodate donkeys and carts or used as a ‘cantina’ to store preserved foods, home made wines, cheeses, meats and more.
Arches entrances, unique doors, herbs & flowers adorn homes. Italians in America worked as bricklayers & stonemasons upon their arrival in USA. Viewing streets & archways we can see why.
