FAMILY FUN
 Riverside
Widener University Observatory

Are you ready to reach for the stars? Budding astronomers (and curious guests) can get an up-close look at the night sky (for free!) at several local university observatories including Eastern, Swarthmore, Villanova and Widener. Widener, for example, opens its 16-inch computerized Meade Cassegrain reflecting telescope (and several smaller 12-inch ones too) to the public on Monday nights and hosts star-gazing sessions monthly throughout the fall and spring semesters. Because space is limited, guests are encouraged to register in advance online — a small price to pay for a night that will unleash the imagination.

West Chester Railroad > westchesterrr.net
Nothing against SEPTA, but a workday commute on the Media/Elwyn
line doesn’t always inspire the wonder and sense of adventure
that the trains of yesteryear did — but the West Chester Railroad does! The railroad’s seasonally themed excursions along the
beautiful Chester Creek Valley depart from Delco’s Glen Mills station, travel to Chester County’s West Chester station and then come back to Glen Mills. (Talk about Destination Delco!) Whether it’s the fall’s Great Pumpkin Express or December’s Christmas Tree Trains, family fun is always the ticket here. All aboard!
