Restoring
The time for reform has come
My career as an attorney has taken me through the ranks of not just the Department of Justice, but the defense bar and the private sector. In that time, I’ve worked with — and, for that matter, against — some of the finest lawyers I’ve ever known.
10 DELAWARE LAWYER SUMMER 2022
Ask any lawyer in this state, and they’ll tell you the same thing: Del- aware’s legal community is, beyond the shadow of a doubt, one of the best in America. In the private sector and the public sector alike, from Chancery to criminal trials, from the bar to the bench, we are blessed with a wealth of extraordinarily talented attorneys who do tremendous work for their clients.
But ask those same lawyers and they’ll also tell you about a glaring problem in the bar, and likely in their own firms: in one of the most racially diverse parts of America — Delaware was the 15th most diverse state in the 2020 Census, with neighboring New Jersey and Maryland both in the top 10 — our legal community is, to put it bluntly, ver y white.
