Heart In The Game to Hold Event at UD
Heart In The Game, a nonprofit formed to provide EKG screenings
for Delaware students ages 8 to
23, will hold a community-wide event Nov. 11 at UD’s STAR
Campus in Newark. The non- invasive EKG screenings, performed
by nurses and evaluated by pediatric cardiologists at Nemours, are used to detect heart conditions that can
lead to Sudden Cardiac Death. SCD is the No. 1 killer of students on campus, according to Heart In The Game, which
has screened more than 2,900 students during the past 3 1/2 years. The organization also trains students in CPR and offers stations that address healthy eating, opiate addiction and other health topics.

Nurse Honored
Olivia Washinski, a nurse navigator at Bayhealth Neurosurgery in Dover, recently received the
DAISY Award for providing extraordinary nursing care.
The award is given by the DAISY Foundation, which recognizes “unsung
heroes” of the nursing profession. Coworker Rahmia Woodson nominated Washinski after Washinski stepped in to help a patient who experienced a health issue during registration. “I’m honored and surprised to receive the DAISY Award,”
says Washinski. “It was wonderful to receive the award, but I really just did what a nurse is supposed to do in the situation.” For more information, visit bayhealth.org.
