Weddings in particular are a specialty, and Red Barn Inn “provides brides with an entire weekend wedding celebration rather than one single day, sharing the property with up to 35 of their friends and family. Regardless of event type, those renting the entire property will have access to multiple event spaces, the choice of tables, chairs and benches, and decorative extras.”
Livingston added that Red Barn’s cleaning procedures “are exemplary, just as they were before COVID. ... All surfaces are thoroughly sanitized, and mask wearing is enforced in all public areas. Fortunately, the 10 surrounding acres allow for plenty of social distancing!”
Brodak’s Banquet Hall: New Life for a Historic Space
Another great option for events is Brodak’s Banquet Hall (facebook.com/brodaksbanquethall), which recently underwent a complete renovation.
“Brodak’s was actually my dad’s property, and he passed away in May,” said owner Anthony Brodak. “We redid the entire facility. We’ve already had six weddings, and we have 53 booked for next year.”
Brodak’s can accommodate both corporate and family functions with up to 500 guests. (However, note that COVID restrictions mean this number is in flux.)
The venue features three bars, an outdoor deck, a pavilion and a scenic setting near the lake.
To keep guests safe during events, Brodak’s requires everyone to wear masks and maintain a six-foot distance. “We also have hand sanitizer stations around the whole facility,” Brodak said.
Short Story Brewing Hones Its Craft at Deep Creek Taproom
Originally founded in West Virginia, Short Story Brewing (shortstorybrewing.com) opened a taproom at Deep Creek Lake in January 2020, and it quickly became a local favorite.
“We really worked hard to make it an inviting, low-key space that compliments the natural beauty of our surroundings,” said co- owner Aaron Rote. “It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy a beer and good conversation after a long day at work or before heading to the mountain.”
Despite the challenges 2020 brought, Rote said the experience of doing business in the Deep Creek area has been very positive. “Even when we were to-go only, I think locals and vacationers were happy to have a place where they could pick up a four-pack or growler of beer and have a quick conversation with someone,” he said. “Those interactions mean a lot more when they become less frequent. Our goals moving forward are to keep letting people know about our taproom, and to keep improving our craft. Year one had a lot of surprises for everyone, so we're excited to get back to normal, or at least find out what normal looks like!”
