Westchester IDA offer?
A: The Westchester IDA does not provide loans or grants like the Small Business
Administration and other Federal and State programs. The IDA offers financial
assistance by providing companies a break or exemption from having to pay sales tax
on certain qualified purchases.
Q: Can you give an example of how this works?
A: Let’s say you’re a company doing a major renovation of existing space or
fit-out of new space. Your company may qualify for a sales tax exemption - typically
7.375% - for the furniture, fit-out, and equipment at that location. If your company
is spending $200,000 on items such as desks, computers, software, telephone systems
and furniture, you do not have to pay sales tax on those items. That’s a savings of
nearly $15,000.
Q: How does a company qualify for assistance? Is it based on
number of employees or the size of the project?
A: The assistance is based more on the amount of money spent on the capital budget,
than by the number of employees. We encourage any company who is undertaking a
renovation or fit-out of its facility to call our office.
Q: How else can the IDA help businesses grow?
A: We can direct your business to a wide range of resources and programs available
on the county, state and federal level. We will work with your company to design a
financial assistance program that best meet your needs.
