Hilltop Hanover Farm and Environmental Center
Here’s a place that ticks every box on your get-in-touch-with- nature list. Want to soak up some solitude? You can walk
miles of inter-connected woodland trails. Observe sustainable farming practices? A self-guided tour takes you to spots like the Farm@Home demonstration garden, composting facility and “Green Roof” chicken shed. And if you want to learn how to shrink your ecological footprint, take a weekend class or workshop on growing, cooking and preserving your own foods. Pet the animals, pick your own vegetables, herbs and flowers, and talk to the center’s working farmers right in the fields.
Wolf Conservation Center
Learn the “ologies” of wolves — mythology, biology and ecology — at this unique center, dedicated to preserving wolves and educating visitors about their important role in the natural world. You can meet the “Ambassador” wolves, Atka, Alawa, Nikai and Zephyr. Or enjoy free coffee while watching wolves during their early-morning folics. In the evenings, let out your own howl and listen to the wolves respond. Bring a camera to attend photo
sessions that include
the chance to snap
the WCC’s critically
endangered Mexican
wolves and red
wolves. Register for
programs on the
WCC website —
all visits are by
appointment only.
