The 226th Annual Meeting of the Medical Society of Delaware took place
on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at the Medical Society of Delaware Building and Conference Center in Newark, Delaware. AMA President- Elect, Andrew W. Gurman, MD, was in attendance and served as the Keynote Speaker for our morning educational program. Dr. Gurman also addressed those in attendance at the Council meeting.
Three education sessions were presented in the morning prior to the commencement of the Council meeting, providing a total of 2.5 continuing medical education credits to be claimed by attending all three educational sessions. This year’s educational program was on “Advance Care Planning
and End of Life... Let’s Have a Conversation.” Topics included Dr. Gurman’s keynote presentation, “AMA Policy and Advocacy on Advance Care Planning;” a presentation by Patricia Bomba, MD, Vice President and Medical Director
of Geriatrics for Excellus Health Plan, Inc., entitled “Advance Care Planning: Honoring Individual Preferences;” and a wrap up presented by Mr. Alex Schadenberg, Executive Director and International Chair for the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, “Exposing Vulnerable People to Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide.”
Awards presented included those to our physician members recognizing their 50 years as a member of the medical profession and for appreciation of their dedicated service to the citizens of Delaware; the Daniel A. Alvarez, MD Distinguished Service Award was presented to the MSD Government Affairs Committee; and Randeep S. Kahlon, MD was recognized by receiving the President’s Award, which was accepted on his behalf by his children and wife Mona.
