NCI PROTOCOL OF THE MONTH
CALGB 30901: Randomized Phase II Study of Maintence Pemetrexed Versus Observation For Patients With Malignant Pleural mesothelioma
Without Progression After First-Line Chemotherapy
The objectives of the trial are:
Primary Objective:
To determine if maintenance therapy with pemetrexed improves progression-free survival in patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma who have at least stable disease after completion of 
Secondary Objectives:
     
Correlative Objectives:
 To assess whether serum biomarkers, including but not limited to soluble mesothelin related peptide (SMRP) (in epithelioid histology) and osteopontin, correlate with tumor response, 
 To determine whether high expression of thymidylate synthase correlates with lack of clinical 
  
 To determine the association between volumetric measurement of tumor response and usual 
Eligibilty:

•  intrapleural cytotoxic chemotherapy will not be considered systemic chemotherapy
• 
• 
• Patients with complete response, partial response, or stable disease following 4, 5 or 6 cycles
