AMANDA COOPER, DO was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society and recognized as an outstanding role model for compassionate care at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College of the Thomas Jefferson University. Dr. Cooper is a third-year Resident in Family Medicine at Christiana Care.
STEPHANIE GUARINO, MD has been appointed Chair of the AMA Resident and Fellow Section Committee on Quality and Patient Safety. She is a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fellow at AI duPont Hospital for Children and the Medical Society of Delaware’s Resident and Fellow Section Representative to the AMA.
MATTHEW HOFFMAN, MD, MPH, GACOG has been appointed
the Marie E. Pinizzotto, MD Endowed Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Christiana Care. He previously served as Vice Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Division of Education and Research at Christiana Care.

MATTHEW W. LAWRENCE, DO, FACOS was appointed Medical Director of the Advanced Wound Care Center at Saint Francis Healthcare. Dr. Lawrence is a board-certified General and Vascular Surgeon and previously served as the Medical Director of the Wound Care Center and Chair of the Division of Vascular Surgery at Saint Francis Healthcare.
ELLIOTT LEITMAN, MD has been appointed a manuscript reviewer for the journal Orthopedics.
DANIEL MEARA, MD, DMD was named President of the Delaware Academy of Medicine at that Academy’s annual meeting.
STEPHEN PEARLMAN, MD MSHQSD was appointed to a national committee of the American Academy of Pediatrics on Child Health Financing.
DAVID SIMPSON, MD was named Medical Director of the Year for Delaware by the Delaware Healthcare Facilities Association.
BEEBE HEALTHCARE
As part of the 100th anniversary celebrations, BEEBE HEALTHCARE has published an illustrated children’s book entitled Beebe’s Big Birthday. The story is told through the eyes of Anna Beebe Moore, daughter of co-founder Dr. Richard C. Beebe and niece of co-founder Dr. James Beebe, Sr. The book is available in English and Spanish.
Beebe Healthcare has joined the Thomas Jefferson Neuroscience Network. The arrangement allows neurologic patients at Beebe Hospital to have access to the Jefferson Expert Teleconsulting, priority transfers to Jefferson, and admission to clinical protocols and trials.
CHRISTIANA CARE HEALTH SYSTEM
CHRISTIANA CARE HEALTH SYSTEM has earned distinction as one of
the nation’s “Most Wired” hospitals by the American Hospital Association’s Health Forum. “Most Wired” hospitals use telehealth to fill gaps in care and expand access to specialists, build patient engagement, use population health management tools, partner with other health care organizations, and take strong actions to ensure health data is secure.
Christiana Care Health System was one of 27 organizations to
earn the 2016 Leading Disability Employer Seal from the National Organization on Disability. The seal recognizes companies that demonstrate exemplary hiring and employment practices for people with disabilities.
The Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute received
a three-year reaccredition from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. The cancer program at Christiana Care has received Commission on Cancer accreditation since 1951.

NANTICOKE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Associations’ Get With The Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus Award with Target: Stroke Honor Roll. The award
recognizes the hospital’s commitment and success ensuring that stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.

NEMOURS CHILDREN’S HEALTH SYSTEM was named to the 18th annual Hospitals and Health Networks magazine 2016 Most Wired list for the sixth consecutive year. The 2016 survey set specific requirements
in each of four focus areas for inclusion on the list: infrastructure, business and administrative management, clinical quality and safety, and clinical integration.
SAINT FRANCIS HEALTHCARE
SAINT FRANCIS HEALTHCARE was awarded a provisional Level 3 Trauma Center state designation by the Delaware Health and Social Services Division of Public Health. As a community Level 3 Trauma Center, Saint Francis Healthcare’s emergency personnel can provide faster assessment, resuscitation, stabilization, and necessary operations for trauma victims. The hospital made a multi-year investment in training, facilities, and surgical and support staffing to provide patients
with enhanced trauma care. Over the next year, the hospital must successfully complete an American College of Surgeons site visit and be recommended for full Level 3 Trauma Center state designation by Delaware’s Trauma System Designation Committee.
Saint Francis Healthcare has been recognized with a Perinatal Care Certification from The Joint Commission. The hospital underwent
a rigorous onsite review to assess its compliance with certification standards for perinatal care in available patient education and information about perinatal care, early identification of high-risk pregnancies and birth, management of mothers’ and newborns’ risks at a level corresponding to the program’s capabilities, and integrated, coordinated patient-centered care that starts with prenatal and continues through postpartum care.
