LINEN Closets
1.Leave some room. Blair Franke, owner of
the Ruxton shop Linens & Lingerie, knows a thing or two about linen closets and the people who
use them. “In general, people jam everything in,” she says. “It’s really important to leave space
to allow for air flow when you have linens,
to avoid mustiness.”
Blair recommends using scented drawer liners or
adding a wrapped bar of fragrant soap or a sachet to the closet. However, she warns
against using fabric softeners because they add a coating that cuts down on the absorbability of towels.
3. Out With the Old. “After buying a new set of sheets, get rid of an old set,” says Blair. “Try not to hold onto worn-out
sheets. It cuts down on clutter.”
4. Easy Access. To avoid jumbled linens, Blair suggests keeping sheet sets together by storing them inside a pillowcase. Also, she says, “stack all the sheet sets in one spot, with the most freshly laundered placed on top. Then, when you need
a new set, pull from the bottom.”
CLOTHES Closets
