LIVING IN WESTCHESTER AND THE HUDSON VALLEY | RELOCATION & MOVING GUIDE
INTRODUCTION
world-class foodie scene (Pocantico Hills’ Blue Hill at Stone Barns has been rated America’s best restaurant, and Tarrytown was recently named a Top 5 Foodie Desti- nation in the Northeast) and cutting-edge healthcare from internationally ranked facilities, and it becomes crystal clear that whether you’re a well-heeled, well-traveled empty nester, an ambitious yet discriminat- ing Millennial or anything in-between, the Hudson Valley region has the lifestyle you’re looking for.
With its 500 idyllic square miles of land and water and 1,000,000 population, WESTCHESTER COUNTY certainly gets its share of attention. It is a place where for- mer presidents and presidential candidates, like Bill & Hillary Clinton, come to spend the rest of their lives and where iconic Holly- wood directors, like Steven Spielberg, come to shoot their movies and TV shows as a pri- mary location. Out of the limelight, howev- er, Westchester boasts no fewer than five of the nation’s best high schools, according to U.S. News & World Report, and is where sev- eral Fortune 500 companies have decided to build their world headquarters. In fact, some are now referring to Westchester as BioHud Valley, for the profileration of visionary tech companies like Regeneron in Tarrytown (the state’s largest such company) and Acorda Therapeutics in Ardsley.
Other factors luring people to Westches- ter in droves include the county’s six hotspot cities. Four of these are currently pooling their financial and infrastructural resources to provide their communities with one-giga-
byte high-speed Internet service, while each is upgrading with a host of transit-oriented and mixed-use development properties that are making Westchester more green, walk- able, utilitarian and commuter-friendly than ever before.
The truth is, there are 21st-centu- ry renaissances going on not just in Westchester but all around it. Neighbor- ing PUTNAM COUNTY is one of the safest and healthiest counties in New York State while boasting a rock-solid business community, extremely low unemployment and loads of historical, cultural and recreational attractions, as well as elite public-school systems. ROCK- LAND COUNTY is teeming with history, too, while enjoying a rapidly develop- ing business climate, bolstered by a rich foodie scene, stores, galleries, great schools and vast parkland — all characterized by

breathtaking riverfront views and covet- able proximity to the Big Apple. ORANGE COUNTY, meanwhile, is also rightly proud of its spectacular views of the Hudson and lush mountainous topography but is similarly steeped in history — not just as the home of the West Point Military Academy but also America’s oldest win- ery. But if your tastes run to newer things, Orange County also offers Woodbury Common, one of the top-ranked outdoor outlets in the world.
For these and innumerable other reasons, the Hudson Valley is quite literally one of the garden spots of the U.S., and while many of its residents may admire or visit other places, almost none of them ever leave. It is the place you come to once you know who you are and what you want out of life. It is the place you go once you’re ready to begin living your dreams.
