Westchester County is home to nearly one million people as di- verse as their various communi-
ties. With roughly 75 zip codes, the county is divided into many distinct towns and villages, each offering its own unique personality and landscape. Bordered by Long Island Sound on the east, the Hud- son River to the west and the Bronx to the south, Westchester supplies its residents with unlimited recreation, vibrant centers of art and culture, beautifully maintained historic sites, sweeping vistas and acres of unspoiled beauty.
Residential opportunities abound here, ranging from studio apartments and artists’ lofts to glorious estates with meticulously manicured grounds. Charming villages and dense commercial districts coexist happily, and a few miles can change everything. It’s an especially exciting time for real estate, as developers are pouring money into the county, revitalizing areas and building an assortment of new apartments, retail cen- ters and entertainment complexes, many with stunning water views.
Westchester is also home base to a num- ber of international corporations, elite aca- demic institutions and nationally renowned restaurants, all of which this guide explores in later sections.
Westchester County as a whole offers a lifestyle largely unmatched anywhere else, providing both opportunity for economic advancement and a respite from more ki- netic metropolitan environments. This co- hesive blend of rural, suburban and urban living truly offers something for everyone.
THE CITIES
MOUNT VERNON
Mount Vernon is currently experiencing an exciting rebirth. Millions of dollars are being pumped into developing the area, with projects including a variety of new apartment buildings and updated retail complexes to support the new residences. Boasting three Metro-North train stations, two MTA subway lines and proximity to six major highways, Mount Vernon is cer- tainly commuter-friendly. Just 30 minutes

from Manhattan, Mount Vernon is rapidly reemerging as renewed gem of the county.
NEW ROCHELLE
Miles of coastline along Long Island Sound set New Rochelle apart from many suburbs, but beaches, marinas and gorgeous water views are not all this dynamic city — the 18th most diverse in America — has to offer. A busy downtown business district, in the midst of a dynamic revitalization plan, offers high-rise apartments, shop- ping centers, entertainment complexes, amazing restaurants and a lively arts scene. RXR Realty, for example, is investing $300 million into a transit-oriented multiuse project near Main Street that will include two 28-story residential towers. Offer-
ing affordably priced units just steps from mass-transit, the buildings represent an exciting new category of accessible, urban/ suburban lifestyle (Millennials, take note). The best part: This reenergized city is just 35 minutes from Manhattan.
PEEKSKILL
Rolling hills in the distance and sweeping views of the Hudson River lend Peekskill an undeniable beauty. Developers are inte- grating attractive new developments in this former industrial region, unfurling in the process a funky small city that really caters to creatives and foodies alike. In addition to loft-centric apartment complexes, updated shopping and recreational facilities, the waterfront is being revitalized with both
