WESTCHESTER
district with chain stores, grocery shops, well-known franchises, a farmer’s market and a variety of small businesses. Just be- yond, Yorktown is filled with historic sites and has a decidedly rural feel, with rolling hills, trees, farms and nature preserves. Theatergoers will enjoy the Yorktown Stage, which presents a number of productions each year, offering classes for both children and adults.
LOWER AND CENTRAL TOWNS AND VILLAGES
ARDSLEY
This small village in the town of Green- burgh is home to the House of Sports, the largest indoor sports complex in the entire region, with world-class coaches training thousands of child and adult athletes week- ly. Ardsley also offers a tight-knit commu- nity with beautiful parks, a gourmet grocery and proximity to shopping at nearby Saw Mill River Road malls.
BRONXVILLE
Covering just one square mile and just 15 miles from Midtown, the village of Bronx- ville seems worlds away from NYC. Its no- table architecture, pricey boutiques, restau- rants and small businesses lead to stunning homes outside of town, though residential options include townhouses and apart- ments. Esteemed institutions such as Sarah Lawrence College and NewYork-Presbyteri- an Lawrence Hospital contribute to the rich fabric of this well-to-do community, as do a

number of well-appointed parks and recre- ational facilities.
EASTCHESTER
Despite its size, this smaller township has much to offer, including award-winning schools, open space, shopping malls, quiet neighborhoods and more densely developed centers. (The town boasts a Barnes & Noble concept store that sells beer!) Easy access to major highways and a number of Metro-North stations enable commuters to live within a comfortable distance of NYC and still come home to a community with fresh-air feel.
HARRISON
This large township, home to the pastoral village of Purchase, offers the best of subur- ban lifestyle. Green and gorgeous, Harrison boasts country clubs, parkland and West- chester County Airport; its central location provides for easy accessibility via trains, planes and automobiles.
PLEASANTVILLE
Right in the center of Westchester, Pleas- antville offers a convenient location for commuters and a family-friendly, culturally rich environment for all of its residents.
KEY FACTS
Left: Scarsdale is consistently ranked as America’s wealthiest community. In addition to excellent schools, parks and town center, it is only a half-hour train ride to Manhattan.
Children here walk to school along tree- lined sidewalks. While this idyllic town lives up to its name, Pleasantville is enlivened by the Jacob Burns Center, an exciting art- house cinema in the center of town, and Pace University, which recently underwent a $100 million expansion.
PURCHASE
A wealthy enclave, Purchase is known for its lovely, meticulously cared for homes and estates. A blend of countryside and culture, the town is energized by Purchase College, with its Performing Arts Center and Neuberger Museum of Art. The area is also an epicenter for high-end leisure — golf and tennis clubs abound, including the stately Old Oaks Country Club with buildings dating back to the 19th century. Purchase is home to big-name institutions, like PepsiCo, MasterCard and Manhattanville College.
SCARSDALE
Consistently ranked the wealthiest town in America by financial analysts, Scarsdale has beautiful homes, excellent schools, nu- merous parks and a well-appointed town center with boutiques and restaurants be- fitting the local income. And while choices abound for all manner of outdoor enthu- siast, commuters can ride a 30-minute ex- press train into Manhattan.
TUCKAHOE
Many refer to Tuckahoe as the best-kept secret in Westchester. Aptly described as quaint (even has its own trolley), Tuckahoe is user-friendly, too, with two train stations, a vibrant village square and a charming Main Street, all packed into less than one square mile. Recently, new restaurants and fashionable shops infused the town with fresh energy.
