ORGANIC REMEDIES:
Changing Patients’ Lives for the Better
In 2016, Gov. Tom Wolf signed into law Act 16, which legalized medical marijuana in the state of Pennsylvania.
Organic Remedies was one of the first businesses in the state to obtain a license to dispense medical marijuana, opening its first location in central Pennsylvania in February of 2018. Since then, the company has grown to six dispensaries, including one in Paoli, and a growing/processing facility.
The leadership team has an extensive background in the pharmacy industry, and everyone at Organic Remedies “is very caring and passionate about what we do,” said Janice Spurlock, the company’s Marketing Director.
What sets Organic Remedies apart in its space, said Director of Community
Outreach Mary Werdebaugh, is its focus on education and community impact.
Organic Remedies conducts its education in a variety of settings where people are likely to benefit from medical marijuana. For example, Werdebaugh travels
across the state presenting educational information to various organizations and nonprofits to educate the public on the therapeutic benefits of medical marijuana.
The company also works with law enforcement officers and probation officers, as well as drug and alcohol
counselors, to spread the word about medical marijuana.
An important population Organic Remedies works with is veterans suffering from PTSD, as well as others struggling to deal with trauma or chronic pain. “Pennsylvania’s medical marijuana program has 24 qualifying conditions, including cancer, epilepsy, chronic pain, and anxiety,” Werdebaugh said. “Most of us know of
a loved one or a friend who is suffering from one of these diseases and who might benefit from the use of medical marijuana.”
