GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS
The Government Affairs Committee (GAC) aims to “be a voice for our small businesses in Chester County and advocate on their behalf with our elected officials,” said Committee Chair Caitlin Ganley.
Business owners may not necessarily be aware of how current legislation affects them, Ganley noted, which is where GAC comes in. At any given point, there are several different issues on the committee’s radar, ranging from the state budget to an effort to reduce the state income tax. “Another issue that’s very close to the hearts of a lot of businesses is childcare — the lack of childcare is a big factor in getting people back to work,” Ganley said.
The committee meets on the first Thursday of every month at 8 a.m., usually with 20 or more attendees.
“We have a lot of partners at the table — the county is represented, and so is the transportation community and the nonprofit sector,” Ganley said.
GAC’s biggest event is the annual State of the County, where chamber members have an opportunity to hear from the three county commissioners. GAC also hosts quarterly dinners or lunches with elected officials.
Members can attend the committee’s meetings in person at the Chamber offices or via Zoom.
