Delaware County, home to 562,960 residents, has a diverse mix of businesses, corporate campuses and
headquarters. They range from a multi-billion dollar global leader in software solutions to a drive-through market, from a historic bank to a company that makes dual-sided scrubbing sponges.
SAP is the world leader in enterprise applications in terms of software and software- related revenue. The independent software manufacturer was founded in Germany
in 1972. Forty-four years later, SAP has
about 300,000 customers in 190 countries and 77,000 employees in 130 countries.
SAP partners with 13,300 companies and
87 percent of Forbes global 2000 are SAP customers.
Swiss Farms partnered with Johns Village Market to offer a drive-through market. Johns Village Market, a local family-owned and operated deli, is known for its homemade recipes, pasta sauce and gravy. Swiss Farms also offers its own premium dairy products purchased from local Lancaster County farms.
Swiss premium teas and drinks are all natural and do not contain high fructose corn syrup.
Wawa, a privately held company, began
in 1803 as an iron foundry in New Jersey. Owner George Wood then moved the business to Wawa, Pa., in 1902 to start dairy farming
and a small processing plant. So successful was the business that George’s grandson, Grahame Wood, opened the first Wawa food market in 1956 as an outlet for its dairy products. Wawa now offers food, beverages, coffee, fuel services and surcharge-free ATMs. Wawa has $9.7 billion in assets (FY2014). Wawa has stores in six states, including 17 stores within five miles of Delaware County. The company employs 22,000 associates throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Florida.
Beneficial Bank is the oldest and largest bank in Philadelphia. Over the years, it has expanded its presence to the Delaware Valley. In 2007, Beneficial Bank acquired FMS Financial Corporation, the parent company
of the Farmers and Mechanics Bank. It also acquired St. Edmond’s Federal Savings Bank while continuing its growth in the Delaware Valley. Beneficial Bank is dedicated to teaching financial literacy to children and offers a program to schools, non-profits and businesses in the community.
