CRUISE
Motorcyclists Bring Bikes
Onboard for Special Vacation
M
otorcyclists from as far away as Canada
arrived April 1 at the Port of Baltimore’s
Cruise Maryland terminal. But cruising
on their bikes didn’t stop at the cruise facility
parking lot.
The 20 motorcycles were taken into the hold of
Royal Caribbean International’s
Enchantment of the
Seas
, where they were carefully guarded while the
boat was at sea. When the ship docked at Caribbean
islands, the motorcyclists enjoyed a rare chance to
explore local roads on their bikes.
The special-interest cruise was organized by
Entertainment Travel Alternatives, a specialty travel
service.

AMPORTS Cuts Ribbon on
Car Wash at Atlantic Terminal
W
hen Chrysler vehicles, such as exciting
Dodge muscle cars or sturdy Jeeps, are
prepped for shipping to countries as far
away as New Zealand and Australia, they must be
free of any grit or dirt.
On May 2, AMPORTS formally opened its new,
belt-driven car wash, which can clean 120 vehicles an
hour, at its Atlantic Terminal. Lauren Pryber, who is
in supply chain management at Chrysler’s headquar-
ters in Detroit, did the honors by cutting the ribbon
and riding in the first car to be cleaned at the new
facility, which is completely computerized. The car
wash also recycles its water and uses a concentrated
soap to reduce the environmental impact.
It will have plenty of work to keep it busy — on
the day it opened, AMPORTS had more than 12,000
cars on its terminal.
“It’s a further addition to the processing
operations here,” said Larry Johnson, who is in
charge of automotive sales for the Maryland Port
Administration (MPA). “It’s a state-of-the-art car
wash and it adds to the opportunities and the
modern, updated facilities here at the Port of
Baltimore. When OEMs see this, they realize it’s
a fantastic facility — it shows that AMPORTS is
investing in the facility and keeping it up to date.”
