T
wo new social media initiatives
will be launched in the under-
graduate Marketing program
beginning this fall: A new
required core course, BMK 400
Social Media Marketing; and a new student
organization, Digital Media and Marketing
Club, that will meet exclusively online.
The addition of BMK400 means that new
marketing students now will be required to
take five core courses (instead of four) along
with three marketing electives.
“Social Media Marketing is a course whose
time has come,” said
Valerie Brown-Baul,
adjunct instructor of the course. “We are
finding that the entire marketing communica-
tion landscape is quickly changing to embrace
the many social media tools; and we want our
marketing graduates to be able to bring this
knowledge to the workplace.”
Social Media Marketing also is being
developed online by DBA Assistant Professor
Dr.
William (Dan) Young
and will be included in
the Integrated Marketing Communication track
that will be part of the new Communications
degree program set to begin in fall 2013.
The Digital Media and Marketing Club
was the idea of marketing student
Chris
McConnell
, who suggested it to his adjunct
marketing instructor Dr.
Darrell L. Neron
.
Membership will be open to all marketing,
business and communication students; and
the club will meet twice a month online
beginning in September.
