WHERE MODERN MEN BEGIN
El Paso BRIDGE
28 DISTINGUISHED GENTLEMAN | Winter 2019
Students were immediately immersed
in the complex issues surrounding immigration via Cristo Rey, a Lutheran parish and refugee center based in El Paso. During their stay, students sat through court proceedings and spoke with undocumented individuals and the many non-profits that serve them. Powerful personal interactions and first-hand experiences were the focus of this trip.
In one instance, students met a 6-year- old Guatemalan refugee, whose mother was murdered just a few days prior. The child and father had just completed their treacherous journey to the United States and were seeking asylum.
