Small Business Programs Provide Resources for Start-ups
Delaware County provides
a multitude of services and resources for small businesses, from planning and financing
to marketing and insurance.
The Office of Workforce Development works to provide one-stop delivery of career services to job seekers, employers and others seeking solutions to workforce development issues.
The Office of Workforce Development is a PA CareerLink® Partner that works in collaboration with other county and state agencies to
provide and implement a myriad of workforce development programs in accordance with
the Workforce Investment Act of 1998. The
PA CareerLink offers workshops on a range of topics, including resume writing, interviewing skills, networking, researching the job market, articulating skills and career management. CareerLink is also a great resource for employers. CareerLink staff can post job openings, set up job interview sessions and assist in identifying available workers. Information can also be provided on a variety of job issues such as targeted tax credits, subsidized wage programs and other initiatives of value to employers.
The Delaware County Library System has numerous resources for your business or job search. The system has a Digital Library Business Collection with downloadable eBooks to help small businesses find tips from every possible angle. The Delaware County Library System’s website provides links to other state and federal resources, including BizOffice.com, CCH Business Owner’s Toolkit, Entrepreneur, HomeWorkingMom.com, National Association for the Self-Employed, Quicken Small Business and SCORE (“Counselors to America’s small business”).
The Villanova ICE Institute provides scholastic, educational and professional development opportunities in creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship. The ICE Institute has a multi-disciplinary focus and seeks to
advance the university’s mission by fostering cross- college learning and embedding entrepreneurial thinking more deeply in the Villanova culture.
The Delaware County Chamber
of Commerce partners with many local organizations to offer more resources to Chamber Members.
 D elaware County Human Resources Association educates professionals on
the principles, methods, policies and ethics of Human Resource Management. They provide networking opportunities and promote charitable/community involvement throughout the Delaware County Area.
The Neumann University Center for Leadership and Delaware County Chamber of Commerce developed a strategic partnership for the Center for Leadership 2015-16 Speaker Series. Neumann University hosts programs over the academic year that bring a better focus on issues related specifically to the business community of Delaware County.
SCORE in Chester and Delaware counties has more than 100 volunteers to assist those thinking of starting a business or those already in business who need help in growing their business. Their combined experience and knowledge matches those of most business school faculties. Their primary goal is to help small businesses be successful by creating an ongoing relationship with the entrepreneur and providing the necessary business expertise to foster success.
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has delivered millions of loans, loan guarantees, contracts, counseling sessions and other forms of assistance to small businesses. The SBA provides an array of financing for small businesses from the smallest needs in micro-lending to substantial debt and equity investment capital (venture capital). The SBA works closely with the Chamber and typically has a presence at all Chamber Membership Orientations.
Widener University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) provides one-on-one consulting services and a series of educational programs and seminars to new and existing businesses in southeastern Pennsylvania. Widener SBDC is a member
of the Pennsylvania network of Small Business Development Centers (PASBDC) and the national Association of Small Business Development Centers (ASBDC). They were the recipient of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 2013 SBDC Excellence and Innovation Award for the Mid-Atlantic Region.
