I love living here in Lewes, and anything I can do to strengthen the bonds within my community, I will. – Skip Faust
healthy. But, he says, it’s even more than that.
“Childhood baseball is a way for the community to come together under the lights of a friendly competition,” he says. It breaks down barriers, mixing together people who might otherwise not meet.
“As a profession, I see REALTORS® really reaching out and helping to build the communities they sell in,” Faust says. “I love living here in Lewes, and anything I can do to strengthen the bonds within my community, I will. “
Coaching is rewarding for him, too.
“I remember looking at my coaches and thinking, ‘Wow, I want to be like him,’” he says. “And if I’m able to be a role model for those guys, so be it.”
When one of his players strikes out, he’ll talk to them about control. You can’t control the umpire, the weather or the ball, he’ll say. “You can only control your thoughts, and you can choose to remain calm and take it as another lesson,” he says.
In the end, Faust sees volunteering as making the community the kind of place people will want to move back to.
