The Port of Baltimore
■
March/April 2013
To subscribe or renew, visi
products to locations north, south and
west, thus giving our customers access
to the world’s finest building materials.”
Gluscic agreed that Baltimore’s
port operation offers more than just
geographic advantages. “When you
mention the Port of Baltimore, most
people visualize cranes, containers and
forklifts,” he said. “What we have found
is a very proactive team that is genuinely
interested in finding the right fit and
function to match your needs. The Port
has assisted in offering backhauls from
various points connecting their other
customers with our logistic services to
provide an effective and value-added
service.”
Richard Pagley, Maryland Port
Administration (MPA) Trade Development,
said of Snavely, “Their commitment
to the Port of Baltimore parallels their
environmental initiatives.”
“In my experience working with
Snavely,” he added, “I have seen a very
professionally run organization that
prioritizes relationships with customers
and vendors.”
Having spent nearly three decades
with the company, Gluscic explained
that Snavely’s continued success
comes down to a few important factors
that have become a core competency
and part of their corporate mission
statement: “recognizing the dynamics
of our markets, and quickly and
efficiently responding to the needs of
our customers and suppliers,” as well
as “employing quality people, providing
opportunity to grow while recognizing
and rewarding outstanding achievement,
and participating in the communities in
which we live and serve.”
At a facility located northeast of
Baltimore in the town of Westminster,
products are unloaded, remanufactured,
packaged, bar-coded and shipped to
various points in the United States via
both Snavely’s trucks and contract
carriers. “We have found the availability
of carriers with the equipment we need
within the proximity of the Port to be
relatively consistent, even in times when
freight is abundant,” Snavely International
General Manager Carl Lamb said. “The
efficient drayage and trucking rates offer
real-time value for the importer, and the
close proximity to the Port enables them
to turn containers from Port to bay doors
with great efficiency.”
