MPA Exec Named Influential Leader
and MMTA Honoree
J
ames J. White, Maryland Port Administration (MPA) Executive Director, has
been named among
The Daily Record’s
2013 Influential Marylanders and will
also be honored in May by the Maryland Motor Truck Association (MMTA).
The Daily Record
recognized White in the “Civic Leadership” category along with
four other individuals, including William C. Baker of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
Baker was this year’s lone inductee into the business publication’s “Circle of Influence”
for winning the award three times.
Since 2006,
The Daily Record’s
editors have selected Influential Marylanders that
have made significant impacts in their fields and continue to be leaders in the state.
A reception was held March 21 to honor this year’s 50 winners.
The Maryland Motor Truck Association honor is presented each year to an individual
who has offered outstanding support to the trucking industry. White will be honored
on May 4 at Baltimore’s World Trade Center. Proceeds from the event serve as a
fundraiser for the Walter and Harriet Thompson Scholarship Fund, which provides
financial assistance to students enrolled in trucking-related fields at Maryland
community colleges.

Logistics (WWL),
recognized by the
John Deere Achieving Excellence
Program as a Partner-level supplier
for 2012, has been inducted into
the John Deere Supplier Hall of
Fame.
Active at the Port of Baltimore,
WWL delivers innovative and
sustainable global shipping and
logistics solutions for manufacturers
of cars, trucks, heavy equipment, and
specialized and complex cargo.
Hall of Fame status is given after
a supplier attains a Partner-level
rating, John Deere & Company’s
highest supplier rating, for five
consecutive years. Suppliers
who participate in the Achieving
Excellence program are evaluated
annually in several key performance
categories, including quality, cost
management, delivery, technical
support and wavelength, which is a
measure of responsiveness.
WWL was selected in recognition
of its dedication to providing
high-quality services, as well as
its commitment to continuous
improvement. The company accepted
the recognition during formal
ceremonies in March.
Last year, the Port of Baltimore
set a record for ro/ro cargo,
handling nearly 1.1 million tons. That
represented a 16 percent increase
from 2011. Quality programs at the
Port, such as QCHAT and the
Ro/Ro Rodeo, coupled with a skilled
labor force ensure giant cargo will be
handled gently.
