President
Richard J. Gutierrez
with the Maryland Port Administration
(MPA), said, “As the largest ro/ro [roll-on/
roll-off] shipper on the East Coast, the Port
of Baltimore is always looking to expand our
offerings in new directions. Ritchie Bros.
sells thousands of pieces of machinery in
North East, Md., so their ability to generate
export business for the Port is enormous.”
Jarczynski is a regular presence at the
auctions. “I’m working with Ritchie Bros.
management and local freight forwarders
to ensure that auction buyers are fully
informed of the ease of shipping recently
purchased machinery through Baltimore,”
he noted. “We view Ritchie Bros.
Auctioneers as a true partner to the Port
and are very pleased with their support and
willingness to further our growth efforts.”
Many of the purchases at Ritchie Bros.
auctions are ro/ro cargo, but some
items are disassembled and packed into
containers. All shipping is the responsibility
of the buyer.
“Buyers can load containers right here
on site,” Iacoboni said. “Some items we sell
are so large and need to be disassembled
and packed. We also sell smaller items;
those can also be packed into a container
and shipped overseas.”
The 80-acre North East facility holds up
to five auctions a year. Buyers can visit the
site ahead of sale day to test, inspect and
compare equipment.
